Computer
Guide...
A happy computer, makes for a happy computer user. I've heard
people threatening to throw their computer out the window, I
too sometimes get frustrated. If you follow these guidelines
- those days should be reduced considerably..
1. Virus Protection: Protect yourself and have a current
up-to-date Virus Protection and Firewall Program. This is so
important - viruses, worms, adware, pop-ups, and spyware is
a growing problem - and not very easy to fix once you have them.
(estimate cost: $40 - $60 a year)
2. Backup: It's smart to have your computer
backed up on a regular basis, at least your important files.
Now a days we keep hundreds of personal pictures on our computers,
and if not backed up they can be gone in seconds. This can be
done today very affordably.
(estimated cost: $50 - $300+)
3. Operating System Upgrades: Microsoft and
Apple provide updates regularly for your operating system. These
fix problems and cover security holes, it's best to keep current
and very easy to do so.
(estimated cost: free)
4. Hard Drive Maintenance: Your hardrive does
a lot of work, constantly copying, moving and deleting files.
Defragmenting and running a utility every 3-6 months is a good practice.
5. Use Firefox - Use a safer browser while
you surf the web. We
recommend using Firefox - a free web browser that adds incredible
security and is very fast.Stop using Internet Explorer, it's slow and allows lots of bad things to happen.
(estimated cost: free)
