7:30 Thursday Morning- Packing up our gear after breakfast. We had a great tent spot (#44) right below the Whitney Portal at about 8,000 ft - giving out sea level bodies a little more time to adjust to the higher altitudes which lay ahead. Here's Jeff getting packed up.

Jeffrey durring our lunch break - we stopped at the beautiful Lone Pike Lake. The water crystal clear - ice cold, and reflecting the Californian blue sky like a mirror.

This little guy showed up - a red squirrel. Was used to hikers coming up - was so tame that he snacked on some peanut butter sandwiches right out of my dad's hand.

Trail Camp on Mount Whitney is at 12,000 feet above sea level. It took us about 6.5 hours to hike from the Portal up to Trail camp, we arrived around 3:30pm just in time to pitch our tents and cook some food before the sun dropped behind the Sierra's. Here's Jeff munching on his Mountain House Chicken Cashew meal.

The Sun dropped behind Whitney and the temperatures started to drop from the 50's down into the 30's.

Can't believe our Moss Tent was still functioning quite well, This tent was purchased in the early 1980's and is still doing a great job!

Here's our Bibler tent just before we headed in for bed. The temperatures dropped below freezing and our bottles of water left outside froze solid over night. Trail Camp has many great tent spots - offering some wind relief w/ stone walls.
