9:30 am : Saturday Morning we left - and headed down to Whitney Portal. Here we are taking a quick water break just near Mirror Lake. Instead of the 6 hours + hiking up, it took us just over 3 hours to decend. |

Here's Dad after he disposed of our "poop"
bag - which weighed in at 16 lbs. Whoa! Mt. Whitney has a "Leave
No Trace" policy, so anything you bring in you must bring out. With
thousands of people visiting the mountain each year, it would become a
very dirty place if they didn't enforce this. Upon receiving your permit to climb - you receive a WAG BAG which you must do your business in, and hike that bag out. It has some kind of special sand/salt substance in it to keep the aroma to a minimum - and to accelerate the decomposition. |

Coming down the access road from the Portal - we stopped to take a picture of Whitney in the distance - and to think we were just at the top not so long ago. |
